SMC 2011 - Come and gone.
The very first School of Mission Communication was held at YWAM ICN in the fourth quarter of 2011. Eleven students came from seven countries to learn how to better serve as communication missionaries. While studying skills such as writing, design, photography and video, they learned about their unique personalities and talents, and how to work in teams. They also learned what it means to engage in truthful, accurate, timely and relevant communication, whether in interpersonal relationships or speaking to thousands through mass media.
The curriculum brought diverse teachers from the local community and afar. Because the school was held in Colorado Springs—headquarters of many ministries—the SMC included multiple field trips to study large-scale non-profit communication efforts.
Students learned through hands-on exercises. Their final projects included a magazine prototype, a revamp of the website ywamcommunication.org, and a short video about the importance of communication which is online at http://vimeo.com/33763279.
